THE OPPOSITION

Munster was officially founded in 1879 and traditionally drew its strength from the local clubs of Limerick. Their ground Thomond Park is widely regarded as one of the toughest places to go in European Rugby and the team have a tradition of success, winning the European Cup in 2006 and 2008.

NOTABLE PLAYERS

Munster’s former players make a roll call of famous Irish rugby names and Paul O’Connell, Ronan O’Gara and Peter Stringer were the brains behind their great European Cup teams of the 2000s. It would be remiss not to mention former player, captain and head coach Anthony ‘Axel’ Foley who tragically passed away in 2016.

The current team have a smattering of Ireland greats with Peter O’Mahony, Conor Murray, Keith Earls and CJ Stander all having also represented the British and Irish Lions in 2017.

FIXTURE HISTORY

Harlequins are one of only four visiting sides to have experienced victory at Thomond Park in 25 years of European rugby, beating Munster 12-20 in the 2011 Challenge Cup semi-final with Danny Care scoring a try in a famous win.

2020/21 FIXTURES

The 2020/21 fixture between these two teams at The Twickenham Stoop is currently scheduled to take place on Saturday 23rd January (kick-off 17:30)
